“Our bodies are our gardens – our wills are our gardeners.” -Shakespeare
In my opinion, one of the most difficult parts about eating nutritious meals is time. Sometimes it feels like I spend hours chopping up veggies. Convenience and fast foods are readily available, making it easy to turn to them on a busy weeknight. There's a reason TV dinners became so popular in the 1950's. The problem is convenience meals are often nutritionally deficient- expanding our waistlines while depriving us of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.
While I'm generally a fan of batch cooking (cook once, eat 3 times or more) to ease meal prep, I wanted to take a moment to mention a company my once carnivorous parents actually turned me on to: a meal delivery service called 22 Days Nutrition. My parents raved about the meals and how much more energy they had after eating them. They also both lost a substantial amount of weight despite always feeling satiated after eating. Most of all they loved the convenience. I've tried many of the meals and the vanilla protein powder myself and have to say I love them too, though I admittedly wasn't a huge fan of the protein bars.
The meals are delivered fresh once per week. You can order a meal plan or a la carte. Because my family didn't always use the meals everyday, we often froze some of them and would just thaw them out when we were ready to eat them. I recommend serving the lunch and dinner options with a side salad to get an extra dose of greens.
The company was launched by Marco Borges, the guy that got Beyonce and Jay-Z to go vegan for 22 days in 2013. The name stems from the idea that it takes 21 days to break a bad habit. Here are some perks about the delivery meals:
- contain minimal ingredients
- environmentally friendly
- 100% plant-based
- naturally low in salt, sugar and fat
- rotating menu with a wide variety of delicious meals
- always arrives fresh on your doorstep
I definitely plan to sign up for the service again when I am back stateside and if you sometimes struggle to find time to cook up healthy meals, I recommend you try it too!
