Eat for Your Health: It's National Nutrition Month

Recipes For Your Health

The Doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest his patient in the care of the human frame, in diet and in the cause and prevention of disease
— Thomas Edison

Unfortunately many physicians (who generally only have an about 4 hours of nutrition education as part of the medical school curriculum) have not yet had the light bulb moment and Thomas Edison's vision has not come to FRUITion.  Medications, often with an array of side effects, are prescribed as a band-aid solution for debilitating chronic diseases (many of which are preventable and reversible with lifestyle modification).  Luckily the lifestyle medicine movement is finally gaining traction and physicians all over the world are recommending patients hit the produce aisle rather than the pharmacy.  The healthcare system, however flawed, doesn't deserve all the blame though.  Ultimately we have to take responsibility for our own health, so take interest in your human frame a la Thomas Edison and cook up some food that treats you right.

Here are some lifestyle medicine approved recipes:

Brown Rice Breakfast Porridge

Healthy Banana Pancakes

Sweet Potato Coconut Mash

Overnight Oats

Spicy Avocado Soup

Roasted Eggplant and Chickpea Stew

Pumpkin Chia Pudding

Mediterranean Veggie Burger

Lemon Navy Bean Pasta

Pumpkin Soup and Cornbread Muffins

Meanwhile in Vietnam, I'm buying and eating all the street food fruit art.
